Launching of new website(30th June 2007)B.D. Arya Girls College inaugurated and launched its Wi-Fi enabled College Automation Software and Website. B.D.Arya Girls College is the first such college in Punjab to launch such a system. Mr. Vinod Aggarwal, the President of College Management Committee launched the Software and Website. Elaborating the system and Software the H.O.D. of Computer Sc., Ms. Poonam Singh talked about the benefits of Smart Cards, Bio-Metric Device and Bar Coding Facility. The Wi-Fi, Smart Card and Automation Software will integrate all the aspects of the College viz. fees and fine, admission, date sheet of the exams, results, time-table, department management, accounts management, report cards and conveyance management. The site will also be available through Yahoo and Google search engines

The meritorious students of the college were honoured by close up advertisement fame actor –model Vinod Singh (Ayusmaan). About 45 students who had secured more then 80% were given prizes by Mr. Vinod singh .Encouraging and motivating the students he told them to fulfill their dreams with positive attitude.

The office bearers of the central association were honoured with cash prizes Mr. Vinod Singh performed the installation ceremony .Badges were given to all the office bearers of the central association.

Inter –collegiate and school shabad recitation competition was organized in the premises of B.D.Arya girls college .It was organized in the remembrance of the founder President Late Lala Bishamber Dass Aggarwal whose death anniversary falls on this date. Ms Sumitra Mishra, Executive Officer, JRC was the Chief Guest.

- Interaction with Actor, Model Vinod Singh (10th Aug. 2007): Mr. Vinod Singh hails from Mumbai and as an engineering student at Mumbai, he auditioned for close-up toothpaste and thereafter there was no looking back. This budding actor has worked for 180 commercial advertisements for products like ‘Hero Honda Splendour,Close Up and Sony Cyber Shot Camera’ .He has acted in movie ‘Stamped’ and has guest appearance in Hum Tum. Mr. Vinod Singh had an interaction session with the students .He shared his acting skills and experiences with students. He also answered their questions regarding film industry. He motivated students to strive hard to fulfil their dreams.

Mr. Yashpal Mittal stressed on the independent thinking of teachers which is essential for successful teaching. He was accompanied by Mr. Dharampal (Ex Secretary Khaddi Udyog).Dr Dev Raj Tyagi, Mr. Sohan Lal and Mr. Onkar Chand.
On this occasion Ms Swaraj Mohan said that in today’s materialistic world, we should try to focus on spiritual values for eternal peace. Dr Sarita Verma stressed on simple living and high thinking. Neha Sharma (Head Girl), Rajni Kaul (Joint Secy.) spoke on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and the importance of Sarvodya.

Students too presented their views on the modern India and the journey of Independence. The students of Dance department presented a group dance on National Integration Dr Sarita Verma (Principal) stressed that the citizens of the nation should rise above personal prejudices to fulfil the dreams of a progressive nation.
Eye Check up and Blood grouping Test (29th Aug. 2007): Newton’s Club of Science Department organized a free eye check up camp in collaboration with Bausch and Lamb Company. Dr. Mohd. Javed Ansari, an eye specialist of Bausch and Lamb Company checked up the vision of the students and provided them lenses on one day trial basis. The main motive of organizing this camp was to develop health consciousness among the students.

Guest Lecture (30th Aug. 2007): A guest lecture was organized by the Mass Communication and Video Production Department. Mr. R.P Munjal, Asst. Station Engineer D.D. (Retd.) was the speaker who explained various technical parts of ‘Camera and Sound’ He also gave demonstration of various cameras and audio console in the studio of Mass Communication Department. It was a great opportunity for the budding journalists to gain and insight into technical practicalities of video production.
A guest lecture on ‘Advertising and Public Relations’ was organized by Mass Communication and Video Production Department. Ms. Simran Puar, lecturer in Doaba College Jalandhar was the main speaker. She spoke that in the era of globalization, Public Relation and Advertising has gained prominence and is widening the choices of consumers.

Tree Plantation Programme (31st Aug. 2007): The only solution to save the earth from Global Warming and pollution is to plant trees and maintain the existing ones. The Nature Club of our college organized a tree plantation programme. Under the supervision of Ms. Manjula Bhalla and Ms. Kawaljit a number of trees were planted in the college campus. On this occasion, students were taught about the importance of trees and valuable tips were given to them for the protection of trees and the environment.

- Talent Show (1st Sept. 2007): Talent Hunt Show was organized to welcome the freshers and to hunt their talent in various fields. The competition consisted of various items of music, dance, dramatics and modelling. Ms. Dimpy, Ms. Indu and Mr. Tejinder Singh were the judges. Guest item from the Chanakya Club was highly appreciated. It was a small extract from the National Movement history of 1928.

Histrionics and both the skits were appreciated. The performance by the sports students was excellent and highly appreciated. Dr. Sarita Verma encouraged the new comers to develop their talents.
Sarv Sahitya Sabha (3rd Sept. 2007): Declamation contest and poetry recitation was organized by Sarv Sahitya Sabha. About 40 students participated in declamation contest and they spoke on AIDS awareness, Drug Addiction and Female Foeticide. Dr. Sarita Verma encouraged the students to develop their confidence by participating in the competitions.

- On 13th Nov. 2007, language quiz was organized by Sarb Sahitya Sabha. Students of Hindi, Punjabi, English and Sanskrit participated. Questions based on vocabulary, language skills and text books questions were asked. There were four teams and team B was declared winner.

Extension Lecture (7th Sept. 2007): An extension lecture was organized by Home Science dept. Dr. Sarshan Chawla from Jaipur University was the main speaker who expressed her views on “Role of Home Science in Women Empowerment”. She stressed that philosophy of Home Science aims at utilization of modern science to improve family life, intellectual thinking and is a pre-requisite for the development of women and progress of society. The progress of women is essential not only for the benefit of women folk, but for the prosperity of the nation.
On 6th Dec. 2007, a talk on ‘Edible Oils’ was organized for the staff and the students of P.G. Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics of the college. Dr. Sanjeev Sharma was the key-speaker. He told us the various nutritional benefits of consuming edible oils as it is an essential ingredient of balanced human diet. Every person should consume at least 20-30 gms of fat everyday. An interactive session with the staff and P.G. students was held, in which various queries of the staff and the students were answered.

Book Exhibition (11th – 12th Sept. 2007): A two days book exhibition was organized in the library of our college by Kalyani Publishers. Dr. Sarita Verma inaugurated the exhibition and motivated the students to imbibe reading habits for their intellectual growth. Books on Computers, Commerce, Management, English literature, General knowledge, Mass Communication captured a good response from the students.
On 20th -22nd Nov. 2007, library week was celebrated in which all the students were given information about the latest books, periodicals and new library automation system.

Lecture on Vermi Composting (15th Sept. 2007): An extension lecture on Vermi Composting was organized by the dept. of Science under the banner of Newton’s Club. Dr. Arwinder Kaur, Reader in Zoology dept. of G.N.D.U., delivered the lecture. Vermi Composting is a way to make manure by organic means by the use of earthworms. It helps in checking pollution caused by the use of chemical fertilizers and helps the soil in regaining its natural fertility.

Adieu (29th Sept. 2007): An emotional ‘Adieu’ was given to Ms. Surjit Nagi, H.O.D. Music dept. A cultural programme was organized in which colorful items were presented by staff members. It was followed by speeches made by staff members. The Director Ms. Mohan and the Principal Dr. Sarita Verma thanked Ms. Nagi for the her valuable contribution in the dept. of Music.

Blood Donation Camp (Nov. 2007): A blood donation camp was organized in college campus. The annual blood donation camp in association with Civil hospital, Jalandhar attracted huge gathering of willing donors. The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Newton’s Club and Rotaract Club.

Social Welfare and Charitable Society (7th Nov. 2007): Social Welfare and Charitable Society celebrated Diwali by visiting Tyag Murti Ashram-an old age home and Guru Nanak Ashram, Joginder Nagar Jalandhar- a house for mentally retarded children. Society donated eatables, woolen clothes and other necessary articles to them. Students and teachers donated liberally for this noble cause.

- National Press Day (16th Nov. 2007): National Press Day was celebrated by dept. of Mass Communication and Video Production. Mr. Suresh Seth, an eminent writer and journalist and Mr. Sinmar Sadesh, Asst. Editor Ajit Samachar were the main guests on the occasion and they spoke on the importance of ‘Role of Press’ and about famous women journalists and their contribution towards the development of Press.

- One Act Role Play Competition (20th Nov. 2007): The English Literary Society of our college organized an inter-class one act role play competition. The students of B.A.-I and B.A.-II participated in the competition. The plays ‘Villa for Sale’ and ‘The Progress’ were applauded by the viewers

- Rally on ‘Save Environment- Save Society’ (21st Nov 2007): A rally on ‘Save Environment and Save Society’ and ‘Unity in Diversity’ was taken out in the Cantonment area by the students of our college. The main motive of carrying out this rally was to create awareness about conservation of environment, optimum utilization of water resources and to stop degradation of trees. The Principal and teachers also participated in the rally.

Exhibition of Folk Art (24th Nov. 2007): To mark 38th Founder’s Day of G.N.D.U. Amritsar, an exhibition of Folk Art was organized in Guru Nanak Bhawan. The various colleges affiliated to this university participated in this exhibition. Many cultural items like Baag, Phulkari, Dariyan, agricultural tools etc. were displayed. We bagged the second position in this exhibition.

Annual Parent Teacher Meet, Old Students Meet (2nd Dec. 2007): Annual Parent Teacher Meet and Old Students Meet were organized in the premises of the college. The main purpose of organizing these events was to keep in-touch with the alumni and their parents so that they can contribute towards the development of the college.
To acquaint the parents with the new developments of the college, an audio-visual presentation was shown to them in which the progress of the college in terms of infrastructure, new courses, sports and hostel facilities was told. An interactive session of parents and teachers was also carried out in which parents clarified their doubts and offered suggestions for the improvement of the college.
To facilitate old students of the college, Old Students Meet was organized. It is an annual event of the college where in college honours its outstanding students who have excelled in their professional lives. The programme was started with the cultural item presented by the students of the college. The achievements of the college academics were also told.

Rotaract Club (13th Nov. 2007): Rotaract Club organized a computerized Card Designing contest. Twenty teams (each consisting of two participants) participated.
27th Nov. 2007: Make-Up and Hair Styling competition was organized by Rotaract club in collaboration with the dept. of Cosmetology. Hardeep in Make-up and Navdeep in Hair styling were declared first in the competition.
30th Nov. 2007: A seminar and Poster exhibition on “Mental Health Awareness” was organized. Varying viewpoints were presented by the students on Mental Health and eye catching posters were displayed by the students of Fine Arts dept. Rtn. Krishan Arora and Rtn. Captain G.S. Kanda were the main guests of the occasion.
